Cambodian traditional attire has a rich history going back many centuries and years. Over those years, the people of Cambodia decided and developed a set of unique and ultimate tradition attire from the debris and cultures of indigenous Buddhism and Hinduism. But their vast culture and tradition lies in their dresses.
Cambodians (usually children) have been raised in order to respect their traditions and are very traditional in their life. Tourists often see the well mannered Cambodian (as said- kids) expressing a hugging “Chumreap Suor” when they meet each other.
Chumreap Suor Attire Change
Cambodians traditionally meet and greet with a Sampeah, it is a tradition which has pressing the hands together the chest with a slight bow and with greeting, having done with a polite ‘Chumreap Suor’. Customarily, often the higher the hands are naturally held and the lower one to bow, then more respect is conveyed to the guest. Except this- when meeting elder people or officials, between men, the following custom has been mostly replaced by handshake. The dresses of guest began to change as time passed and modernized.
Traditional Dances’ Attire
There are many more dance forms in Cambodia, of which is a highly developed art form which was once confined mainly to the pagodas of the palace and performed mainly by females(usually girls). Known formally in the Khmer (Cambodia) as “Robam Apsara”, the dancers of the form are mostly said as Apsara dancers.
The dance form was firstly brought up to foreign countries and was the best known during the 1960s as the Cambodian Royal Ballet.
The dress worn is often colourful shiny. That almost like a ‘saree’. A long dress was worn round the females.

Bokator, formally known as Cambodian wrestling, is a Khmer martial art form that involves near hand-to-hand combat, with the ground techniques and weapons (known as Hathi yaar). They wear traditional dresses, like a blue west with name in front.
Bokator is one of the oldest Cambodian martial spirit art and is said to be the close body combat system used by the men in armies during the older era.
Pradal Serey is another traditional Khmer(Cambodian) kick boxing. A match consists of five rounds which take place in a ring. There is a one or 1 or 2 break in between each round. Before each match, boxers have the praying rituals said to be as the ‘Kun Krou’. Traditional Cambodian music is often played during each match.
The dress attire of the guest or say fans is similar to the wrestlers. The dresses are similar to Bokator.
Wedding Guest Attire Of The Country Of Cambodia
Cambodian marriages are often done in great population. So people or say guest wear shiny and coloured dresses. Traditional attire is mentioned at the end of the paragraph .That is their main attraction. Everything is performed for a large amount. Food and sweets too. There is freedom for the boys to remarry, but not for the girls who are restricted. In their tradition, girls could not shout or cry during working. Parents restrict these things. Mostly, girls are protesting with their traditions.
During the weddings, guest wears a dress or cloth, known as ‘kurta’ and a shiny top.
Cambodian Death And Beliefs
Birth of a child is a happy moment for a Cambodian family. A woman who dies in childbirth and crosses the river – Chhlonge- is said to be having the evil spirit. People wear white coloured dress. Death is not taken as a great outpouring for the families. It is said that an end of a life will be better taken as a birth for another. Dead bodies are washed, dressed and then are placed in coffins for these sort of events too, white attire is used.
